Summer Scavenger Hunt

Ahhh summer time! As a teacher summers are for recharging, self care, and reflecting on last school year. This summer is a little different for me because I get to spend every day with my 6 and 4 year old girls.

I'm realizing a few things pretty quickly. First is that I shouldn't wait until summer time for self-care. That should be something I do more often thought-out the year. I like to think I take pride in being aware of my personal wellness but I think I may have taken the down time for granted in the past.
Second! I needed to be better prepared for entertaining these little small humans I created. I actually said out-loud that I should do any number of things before the school year ended in order to be better prepared, but if you're a teacher or you know a teacher... the end of the year can be a hectic, stressful time of year.
No worries though! We have Pinterest!
There are plenty of things I scroll by and even things I click on that are appealing but unrealistic. The kid resources out there though are amazing! So many mom-of-the-year awards need to be handed out.
Today started out rainy and with one of my girls receiving scratches across her face from the other one. So the second the sun came out I was typing 'Kids Outdoor Scavenger Hunt' into Pinterest. I didn't even bring my laptop up to the printer, I just grabbed a paper and pen and my below average drawing skills (since neither of them read very well).
The list below worked pretty well for us. I broke it in half and when I realized they weren't actually collecting the things, just checking them off I decided to add things like 'clouds'. Feel free to do your own Pinterest search for more ideas! Someday I'll create one and attach it to this post so you can print it and save yourself the embarrassment of drawing a bird!

What are you finding that entertains your children over the summer?? Bonus points if it gets them moving around outside!!

Now, back to that topic of self-care..... While kids are entertaining themselves (for 3.4 minutes!) what do you do?? It takes some training but pick something that works for you, even if you only have those few minutes.
I like to start with a minute of deep breathing with my eyes closed. Helps me get a little clarity so I can focus in on what my body might need at the time. It could be a few more minutes with my eyes closed, a glass of water, some stretching, or maybe a walk outside with the kids in the fresh air! Start small.
